Iterations and Designs
1. Short brim with colorful strips. Use colors and red threads to indicate memories and
neuron links.
2. Use cloth debris to indicate memories. Dripping voile to at the front of the headpiece to
indicate emotions.
3. Inner and outer hood design. Face and head are covered by voile to express heavy
emotions.
4. Design with voile only, decorated with colorful glitters. This headpiece covers the entire
head. Expressing a mysterious sorrow and reflecting memories.
5. Half-covered headpiece. Red threads indicating neurons are hide beneath the semi-
transparent voiles, with gray-scaled voile for memory loss.
Process Record of the Final Design
1. Use draping tapes on the head model to support parttern making and basic
measurements.
2. Creating two pattern pieces.
3. Creating the prototype. This process includes sewing two pieces together, and cutting a
fabric block for the length of twice of the hood length, width of 3 inches. The next step
aims to double back the fabric block, and sew the open edges at ⅜ inch. Then pull two
ends of the threads to shrink the fabric to the length of the hood.
4. Hood finishing look on the head model.
5. Theme element design. This process includes selecting red polyerster thread, gluing
them on the hood to mimic thousands of neurons in brain. The colorful semi-transparent
fabrics are selected to indicate different kinds of memories.
6. Final design finishing look. The headpiece consists of a white polished satin hood,
decorative semi-transparent voile and foam balls.
